Are you interested in positively impacting students’ lives? We are seeking candidates for a collaborative, energetic, and innovative full-time, tenure-track faculty position to teach a combination of microbiology and either general biology or environmental science.
Instructors are responsible for establishing and promoting an inclusive and effective learning environment to maximize student learning.
Instructors may be assigned to teach a variety of biology courses in traditional classroom and/or blended/hybrid settings as needed in the Science and Mathematics Division at Delta College.
POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The successful candidate must demonstrate the ability to include culturally competent and inclusive teaching practices that meet the college’s commitment to fostering an environment of belonging, diversity, equity and inclusion.
Demonstrate a commitment to the mission, vision, and values of Delta College.
Demonstrate a philosophy of teaching that provides learning opportunities that meet the needs of all students.
Commitment to providing a learning environment that addresses the historical and contemporary sociocultural frameworks that provide a more holistic representation of the field of biology.
Teach at least 30 equated credit hours annually of biology courses, specifically in the subfield of microbiology, general biology, and/or environmental science, in a variety of settings including day, evening, weekend, at the main campus, Saginaw Center, Midland Center, or online.
Online modalities include hybrid, asynchronous, and synchronous.
Focus on supporting and assessing student learning and academic achievement to promote student success.
Continually develop appropriate innovation in learning and teaching to meet diverse learning styles and student needs.
Collaborate voluntarily and enthusiastically with colleagues in the academic discipline and with other faculty colleagues to develop effective learning experiences for a diverse student body.
Serve the community through outreach activities.
Demonstrate an understanding and appreciation of diversity based on the college statement on diversity.
Make effective and innovative use of appropriate technology in the performance of the responsibilities and accountabilities.
Commit to ongoing educational and professional growth.
Engage fully in course, discipline, program development, curriculum development and assessment.
Attend and participate in discipline, division, and college meetings.
Committee participation at the college and related professional organizations.
Possess minimum technology skills and understanding of a course management system.
Demonstrate teaching effectiveness which supports student learning and encompasses pedagogies for student success to meet course and/or program requirements.
Work in a variety of settings which promote quality learning.
Maintain professional development to assure currency within field of practice.
Possess effective verbal, written and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrate an understanding of and willingness to teach dual enrolled students.
Required Qualifications Master of Science degree in biology or a related discipline with a minimum of 18 credit hours in microbiology or other closely related subject areas from a regionally accredited institution of higher education.
Relevant subject areas should include microbiology as the main component with ability to teach either general introductory biology courses and/or environmental science.
Commitment to creating an inclusive classroom climate and designing curricula that foster greater sense of community.
Recent experience in teaching biology in an active learning environment.
Experience using a variety of teaching modalities, educational technology, and delivery methods including online.
Demonstrated current knowledge in microbiology, general biology, and environmental science.
Ability to teach on multiple Delta campuses and online (asynchronous and synchronous) Demonstrated commitment to Equity and Completion.
Demonstrated proficiency in relevant technologies.
Commitment to creating an inclusive classroom climate and design curricula that foster greater sense of community.
Additional Experiences Considered Teaching experience at the community college level.
Relevant teaching experience in the content area and at the community college level.
Post-doctoral work in a related field.
Demonstrated current and ongoing professional growth Experience working with non-traditional students from diverse backgrounds and with varying academic skills.
Demonstrated experience working as part of a committee, learning community, grant project, or other related education-based group that requires collegiality and teamwork.
Experience using a variety of teaching technologies and methodologies, and delivery methods including online.
Pedagogy is informed by belonging, equity, diversity and inclusion.
Online, Hybrid, or blended teaching experience.
Familiarity with learning management system software.
Demonstrated ongoing professional growth.
Demonstration of collegiality.
Ability to teach across disciplines.
