Position Overview The Special Education Teacher provides and coordinates comprehensive quality educational services to students in care by assessing needs, planning, and implementing services appropriate to meet assessed needs, evaluating outcomes, and writing recommendations for post placement educational programming.
Requirements: Follow special education guidelines and practices as provided by Michigan Department of Education and the Saginaw ISD.
Provides direct services as needed to assigned special needs students.
Timely prepares, implements, and evaluates IEPs (including transition plans and behavior management plans) for each assigned student based on individually assessed needs, in accordance with district procedures.
Administers and develops subject specific assessments for the purpose of assessing student competency levels and/or developing individual learning plans.
Assesses student progress towards objectives, expectations, and/or goals for the purpose of providing feedback to students, parents and administration (Pre/Post Testing).
Develops educational plans for the individual student.
Demonstrates and differentiates methods required to perform classroom and/or subject specific assignments for the purpose of providing an effective program that addressing individual student requirements (IEP, EDP, Transition Plans, or Personal Curriculum, Student Grades, and Individual lessons).
• Participate in both entrance and exit Individualized Educational Plans for eligible special education students as necessary.
Collects information related to students’ academic needs and develops responding teaching methods.
Administers educational instruments on all students to determine academic needs of individual.
Analyzes various approaches to teaching.
Develops most effective teaching methods and supplies required information to Program Evaluation Department.
Conducts educational processes to students in classroom, outside the classroom, and in clinical environments.
Instructs students based upon individual needs utilizing various teaching methods (lecture, audio-visual, demonstration, individual instruction).
Assigns and evaluates homework and make-up work to assess student progress and provide feedback.
Administers tests for evaluation purposes.
Maintains classroom appearance by issuing work orders, directing group in clean-up, updating bulletin boards, and displaying individual/group accomplishments.
Meets with students regarding progress toward school and academic goals, testing results, and resolution of student difficulties to assure individual needs continue to be met.
May be required to transport youth.
Performs other duties related to the essential duties of the position and within the individual’s capabilities as assigned by one’s supervisor.

Bachelor’s degree in related field and appropriate Special Education Certification for program (i.
e.
, LD, EI, EMI, SBH) and 1-year teaching experience.
Must be Dual certified in Secondary Math or Secondary English Meet State “Good Moral Character” guidelines.
Valid and Current Driver’s License with acceptable driving record.
