Summer Program Wage: $32.
01 per hour during the program Teacher Prep: 2 days 3 hours each; 1 before and 1 after the session Hours of Program: 8:30 am - 12:30 pm Dates of Program: Monday-Thursday; June 10th - July 25th SUMMARY: The summer academic teachers are the primary support to ensure the academic and social development of students.
Teachers will create and lead lessons and activities and support the summer learning objectives.
The teacher's day will be adapted to fit the needs of the students to promote academic growth.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.
Ability to work closely with summer school and grade level teachers to deliver instruction to students.
Exhibits necessary stamina for the day-to-day demands of teaching.
Ability to assume responsibility with a minimum of direct supervision.
Displays a genuine love of teaching students.
Conveys research and practices which promote successful learning environments.
Demonstrates cultural sensitivity.
Ability to clearly express thoughts in writing; exhibit acceptable standards of grammatical usage, spelling, and structure.
Exhibits the need to collaborate with other educators, parents and community members to create learning opportunities that ensure success for all students.
Plan and facilitate experiences which present accurate information and elicits further inquiry by students that integrate all developmental domains (emotional, physical, social, and cognitive, etc.
).
Create and manage a learning environment that emphasizes scope and sequence of the District's curriculum learning goals with an emphasis on Language Arts and Math.
Implement a variety of cooperative learning strategies and a theory-based classroom management plan that includes the basic needs of students.
Work collaboratively with other educators in planning and facilitating classroom activities.
Organize instruction into meaningful units and make connections to other content areas.
Reflects on teaching and devises ways of improving on an ongoing basis.
Plan and implement learning environments to include management of time, space, and materials; the physical and social environments; and adjustments for children's age and needs.
Solicit parent involvement in classroom and school activities through a variety of outreach efforts including direct contacts and written communications.
Participate in self-evaluations of teaching results, teaching techniques, practices and procedures, and revise accordingly.
Keep informed of new technology, new teaching methods, new knowledge, and current social conditions.
Participate in conferences, inservices, and workshops to facilitate on-going professional growth/ development.
Demonstrates knowledge of the teaching and learning process.
Demonstrates a belief in the philosophy of mastery learning.
Selects, understands, develops, and administers on-going assessments which best meet the needs of students.
Knows and appreciates the diversity of a global society.
Implements full inclusion techniques for special education students.
Utilizes technology available in the teaching and learning process.
Adjusts instruction, the environment or activities to accommodate a variety of learning styles.
Develops critical thinking skills with students.
Creates a thematic curriculum.
Personalizes learning of students.
Supervise and lead learning activities during field trips Abide by the policies of the Board of Education, the terms of the Master Agreement, and directives issued by the school administration within the provisions of the Master Agreement.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's Degree with valid Michigan Teaching Certificate Demonstrated successful classroom Literacy and Math Instruction A teaching/learning philosophy compatible with district vision for literacy and math CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Valid Michigan Elementary Teacher Certification required LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedure, or governmental regulations.
Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of administrators, staff, students, parents and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program; ability to plan and present lessons based on school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, peers, school staff and parents; skills in oral and written communication.
