Position Summary:
MSU Extension is seeking creative and organized individuals to serve as Youth Instructors for the Presque Isle County 4-H Summer Recreation Program for a six-week youth program serving up to 60 youth, ages 8-11.
Hiring up to 4 Youth Instructors to work 27 hours each week.
Start date June 7, 2024, through July 26, 2024.
Youth Instructors will actively engage with youth in all aspects of the program.
Characteristic Duties/Responsibilities:
The Director may delegate tasks to staff as appropriate including:
Leading specific games and activities, especially a game that youth can join in as they arrive/finish breakfast.
Greeting youth on arrival and assuring youth sign in and out.
Monitoring restroom and drinking fountain breaks.
Taking photos and video on a regular basis to document the program, assuring that everyone is included.
Photographer will be informed if a family has not signed a media release.
Handle minor discipline concerns.
Shepherd youth to assure a positive experience.
Providing a quiet and safe “time away” space when needed.
Having ideas and simple tools for spur-of-the-moment games, as needed.
As part of our partnership with Rogers City Area Schools and the Summer Foods Program, Summer Rec staff help to count youth participating in meals, help serve meals, and clean up the eating area.
Desired Qualifications
Understanding of and ability to implement Civil Rights principles and compliance standards.
Ability to lift and carry educational materials, equipment, etc.

Ability to demonstrate sensitivity, knowledge, and use of appropriate approaches, skills and techniques, which reflect an understanding and awareness of social, cultural and economic diversity of the target population served.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Proficiency in use of technology (e.
g.
, web research, Zoom, Qualtrics, Microsoft Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook for mail/calendaring, distance technology, etc.
).
Other skills and/or physical abilities required to perform duties of the position.
