This assignment is a full-time instructional coaching position in support of math and science teachers at the middle school.
Job Overview: A White Pine Middle School Instructional Coach supports the growth and development of Math and Science teachers/peers through professional learning, classroom collaboration, and capacity building.
This includes supporting and modeling best practices with the desired outcome of student achievement, quality instruction and a positive interdependent work culture.
Qualifications: Successful secondary/middle level teaching experience Michigan certificated teacher with Math endorsement, required Additional Science endorsement, highly desireable Demonstrated ability to work and communicate well with others and as part of a team.
Demonstrated understanding of best practices for teaching Demonstrated understanding of adult learning theory.
Recognition of the varied purposes of assessment (screening, diagnostic, progress monitoring, and achievement); ability to select assessments to meet these purposes; capacity to use assessment results to inform instruction.
Experience as a facilitator of professional learning Coaching Expectations: Attending coaching training and coaching meetings Motivating others to perform at high standards A high degree of professionalism to ensure and protect the confidentiality of peers Engaging individuals or groups to build collaborative relationships Being a part of initiatives and supporting those initiatives with peers Engaging in the learning/training of new initiatives in a more thorough manner, usually before peers Engaging in their own ongoing professional learning Being open and comfortable with giving and receiving feedback for growth (feedback will not be formal or evaluative) Supporting the use of data-driven decision making Having open and frequent communication with administrators (not for the purpose of discussing peers, but for the purpose of continued growth and support of the coaching model) Being comfortable with modeling and/or observing in a peer’s classroom (observations are not formal or evaluative) Being comfortable with co-planning and/or co-teaching Supporting and working on curriculum alignment, mapping and implementation Daily, in-person attendance is required Other duties as assigned Reports to the principal Coaching Schedule: A monthly coaching meeting after school Additional training outside and/or professional development may required and provided.
Will be accompanied by one hour of release time in addition to prep time to collaborate, plan and support teachers Coaches will encourage productive, collaborative school environments while showing respect for individual differences and teaching styles and encouraging the five states of mind for their peers: consciousness, craftsmanship, efficacy, flexibility, and interdependence.
Consciousness: Knowing what and how I’m thinking about my work in this moment and being willing to be aware of my actions and their effects.
Craftsmanship: Knowing that I can continually perfect my craft and being willing to work towards excellence and pursue ongoing learning.
Efficacy: Knowing that I have the capacity to make a difference through my work and being willing to take responsibility to do so.
Flexibility: Knowing that I have and can develop options to consider about my work and being willing to acknowledge and demonstrate respect and empathy for diverse perspectives.
Interdependence: Knowing that we will benefit from our participation in, contribution to, and receipt of professional relationships, and being willing to create and change relationships to Compensation and Benefits If a current STCS teacher is selected, this is a change of assignment that does not effect pay.
The STEA Agreement, provides that the 2023-2024 compensation starts at $44,037 Bachelor's Degree (no previous teaching experience); $51,537 Master Degree, (no previous teaching experience).
The parties' collective bargaining agreement is through July 31, 2024.
