Assistant Cross Country/ Track & Field Coach External posting Part-Time, Non-Exempt , Administrative/Professional Hours per week: 26 hours per week Work Schedule: JOB SUMMARY: Saginaw Valley State University, a DII member of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic conference invites applications for the position of Assistant Coach for Men's & Women’s Cross Country, Track & Field to assist the head coach to develop, promote, and supervise all facets of the track & field program; assist the head coach to develop and execute strategies for the recruitment of student-athletes for highly visible regionally and nationally competitive team; assist the head coach to organize and direct all aspects of the program, organizing practice sessions to enhance the team’s performance.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILIES: Demonstrated knowledge of and adherence to all applicable NCAA and conference compliance rules and regulations.
Ensuring that all relevant institutional, conference, and NCAA rules and regulations are followed including, but not limited to player eligibility, recruiting, financial aid, scheduling, and academic progress.
Ensure compliance with all institutional, conference, and NCAA rules and regulations by student-athletes and sport-related staff.
Abides by NCAA Bylaws 10.
1 and 11.
1 regarding ethical conduct and the responsibility to positively contribute to a campus culture of NCAA rules compliance.
Responsible for promoting a positive academic environment to encourage all student-athletes to strive for academic excellence.
Assist in preparing and executing practice and game plans, strategies, and alternatives which are designed to bring success to the program.
Providing moral support and encouragement.
Ensure the safety and well-being of the student-athletes.
Establishing and maintaining community contacts, which enhances the success of the program.
Assisting in the purchase, maintenance, and inventory of uniforms and equipment.
Assist in directing and managing the recruiting efforts of the program.
Assist in designing and implementing off-season training programs for student-athletes.
Assist in all fundraising needs for the program.
Maintain appropriate communications with student-athletes and parents.
Assist in the planning of banquets, fund raising efforts and other activities which promote the program.
Assist in managing travel arrangements for the team.
Assist with promoting, operating and coordinating summer camps.
Perform related and other duties as assigned by Head Coach Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s Degree Two years of relevant sport coaching or participation experience at the collegiate level or higher Knowledge and understanding of NCAA rules and regulations.
Willingness to travel nights and weekends Experience and ability to positively interact with diverse student populations and groups.
Ability to handle and maintain confidential information.
Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodations.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Exceptional leadership skills.
Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills Strong desire and ability to successfully recruit.
Strong follow-through skills, as well as the ability to plan, organize, and control projects through to completion.
Four years of track and field coaching or participation experience at the collegiate level or higher.
