Graduate from an accredited school of nursing and holding a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan required; Prefer BSN.
Five (5) years previous experience in an admission unit for a hospital or mental health environment.
Behavioral Health crisis intervention experience preferred.
Supervisory abilities to plan, coordinate and direct the activities of Central Intake staff.
Appropriate knowledge of Federal, State and other regulatory agencies pertinent to clinical care.
Approved CPR certification.
SECURE Training required.
Plan, direct and manage daily department activities/schedules and workflow for Central Intake.
Select, train, supervise and evaluate the performance of the Central Intake Specialists.
Develop, secure approval of and administer the department budget for staffing, capital equipment, education, operations and the like.
Assist the BMC Program Executive in ensuring revenue and expense targets are achieved.
Receive and screen calls from a broad range of customers who are seeking inpatient behavioral health services for themselves, a family member, or patient.
Review assessments for admission against stated admission criteria.
Contact physicians for admission decisions.
Document admission and intake activities.
Monitor and maintain current status of bed availability/capacity of inpatient units.
Maintains communication and coordination with patients, significant others, and referral sources related to the admission process.
Complete and maintain all pertinent related documentation (Inquiry Forms, etc).
Coordinate with the Admission Mental Health Technician (MHT) to ensure completion of all new admission paperwork and tasks associated with processing admissions.
Assess patient’s condition on admission and complete all nursing related new patient assessments and tasks associated with processing new admissions.
Effectively communicate with physicians, nurse managers and shift supervisors to effectively and efficiently process new admissions.
Effectively communicate with the unit charge nurse to ensure all pertinent patient care information is completed through a patient hand-off.
Assess patient’s condition on an ongoing basis through the intake and admission process based on observation and/or interview of the patient and/or family or representative, physician’s diagnosis, laboratory findings and any other pertinent information.
Uses professional judgement to prepare a measurable, attainable, reasonable, specific and individualized plan of care for the patients.
Verifies insurance with either admitting or the insurance company and pre-certifies admissions as necessary.
Conduct medication reconciliation with admitting Psychiatrist or On-Call Psychiatrist
Participate in Program Access meeting as directed.
Perform all aspects of admission and intake process in accordance with stated performance timelines.
Follow up on admission denials as directed.
Provide crisis intervention for potential patients calling for admission.
Manage overall communication flow between facility and referral sources.
Complete summary reports of activities and/or related to performance and quality indicators.
Maintains effective communication with Charge Nurse or other unit based staff.
Punctual and regular attendance is required.
Compliance with mandatory overtime required when necessary.
