Work requires a current license to practice as a professional registered nurse in the State of Michigan.
Must possess post graduate degree in nursing or a related field; or the knowledge and skills associated with an advanced degree; or a written plan to obtain these qualifications.
A minimum of five (5) years’ experience in leadership with responsibility for assessing, planning, directing and evaluating the delivery of nursing services in a hospital facility setting is required.
Functions at the senior leadership level to provide effective leadership and to coordinate leaders to deliver nursing care, treatment and services.
Coordinates the development and directs the implementation of Hospital level plans for providing nursing care, treatment and services.
Coordinates the development and directs the implementation of Hospital level patient care programs, policies and procedures that describe how patients’ nursing care needs or the needs of patient populations receiving nursing care, treatment, and services are assessed, evaluated and met.
Assumes an active leadership role, at the Executive Level, with the hospital’s governing body, medical staff, leadership and other clinical leaders in the hospital’s decision-making structure and process and carries out duties and responsibilities as required by Michigan Departments of Licensing & Regulatory Affairs and Health & Human Services, Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF), CMS Hospital Conditions of Participation, and requirements of The Joint Commission (TJC).
Participates with leaders from the governing body, management, medical staff, and other clinical staff in HSS strategic planning activities and in the effective management of financial, human, material, and informational resources.
Facilitates the efficient exchange and management of information between nursing and other clinical and non-clinical support services in order to support patient care needs and the efficient cost-effective utilization of resources.
Establishes, approves and directs the implementation of guidelines for the delivery of nursing care, treatment and services including standards of nursing practice; nursing standards of patient care, treatment and services, and nursing policy and procedure.
Evaluate effectiveness of care delivery and performance of staff to assure compliance with regulatory, accreditation and practice standards as well as assuring safe, quality patient care.
Participates in and/or leads hospital level Program Executives and Nurse Managers in establishing staffing plans and ensuring that patient requirements for nursing care are coordinated with available nursing resources to provide safe quality patient care.
Collaborates in the development and review as necessary, of HSS orientation activities for new members of the nursing staff in order to maintain nursing and patient care standards.
Collaborates with Facility Educator(s) to assure training and compliance as it relates to unit orientation program, nurse preceptor program and SECURE training.
Assists with the development and participates in staff recruitment and retention strategies for nurses and other staff as necessary.
Integrates concepts from current nursing research and other evidence-based practice/guidelines into nursing orientation, continuing education/inservice and nursing standards, policy and procedures and fosters an environment conducive to learning, discussion and evaluation of new technology.
Supports Nurse Managers’ implementation of an effective and ongoing program to measure, analyze and improve the quality of nursing care treatment and services.
Collaborates as necessary with leadership to develop mechanisms for promoting educational and professional goals of members of the HSS nursing staff.
Works with Organizational Excellence to coordinate relationships with academic programs in nursing and fosters positive student experiences.
Participates in and/or leads internal HSS committees related to nursing care activities, quality and safety as well as participation in governing body and other committees as assigned.
Participates in the evaluation, selection and integration of new health care technology.
Keep abreast of economic conditions/situations, and recommend adjustments in nursing services that ensure the continued ability to provide quality care.
Collaborates in establishing policies which improve safety for patients receiving nursing care and acts as a liaison between nursing services and the HSS Patient Safety and Environment of Care Committees.
Manages the Infection Control/Prevention and Central Intake Nurses, this includes the orientation, development and evaluation of work.
Establishes, approves and directs Infection Control/Prevention and Central Intake annual staffing, operating and capital budgets.
