Summary: This position assists the radiologist and other physicians with high quality, computerized tomographic and radiographic images required in part for the diagnosis and treatment of patients while ensuring the least amount of radiation exposure to oneself and the patient.
Provides general care to the patient while in the department.
Responsibilities: (35%)* Performs computer tomography studies following protocol.
Is able to differentiate between normal and abnormal anatomy and will tailor exams in accordance with patient history obtained, protocol, and Radiologist instruction.
(30%)* Administers IV and oral contrast as required for procedures according to protocols.
Follows departmental protocol and institution guidelines for delivery of IV contrast material.
Monitors patients physical and mental condition throughout the entire procedures.
Records any and all patient data appropriately.
(20%)* Provides radiation protection for patients, self and others using gonadal shielding and collimation where applicable.
Document acknowledgment of scheduling as directed.
(15%)* Performs nursing duties, including but not limited to the following: assisting the radiologist in the performance of sterile procedures, practicing sterile technique, obtain vital signs, obtain pertinent clinical history, and must be proficient in venous puncture.
Will document any and all important data appropriately.
Will be able to identify an allergic reaction or any other urgent medical condition and will notify and assist the radiologist in the treatment of such a situation.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Prepares and maintains patient information and digital files in computerized database.
Performs clerical duties in the absence of clerical personnel.
Orients and trains new personnel and students to the departmental policies, procedures and protocols.
Participates in quality assurance and CQI programs as needed.
All other duties as assigned.

Required Education: Education: ASSOCIATES DEGREE Equivalent Experience: Degree in Healthcare Related Field.
One (1) year experience working as a CT technologist in a medical center or similar setting preferred.
At least two (2) years experience working as a technologist in a medical center or similar setting preferred.
ARRT registered required and CT registered required (as of 3/13/16) within 2 years of hire date.
a BA in Nuclear Medicine is a degree that qualifies to hold this position include Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologists and also include the NMTCB CT certification as a pathway for CT certification instead of ARRT Certifications and Licensures: Credential:ARRT CT: ARRT CT Equivalent Experience: Required within three years of hire or transfer into position.
Credential:BLS: Basic Life Support Equivalent Experience: Within 1 month of hire or transfer Qualification Source: AHA Credential:ARRT: Reg Radiologic Technologist Equivalent Experience: Within 1 year of hire or transfer.
Other Information: EXPERIENCE, TRAINING AND SKILLS: Basic knowledge of personal computer, keyboard dexterity and RIS/PACS/HIS.
Interpersonal skills needed to communicate successfully with individuals and groups and interact with people at all levels to communicate ideas and concepts in a clear and understandable manner.
Tuberculosis (TB) testing as needed according to MIOSHA (Michigan Occupational Safety Health Administration) standards.
Mandatory Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) training must also be completed annually according to the Exposure Control Plan.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Exposure to stressful situations, including those involving public contact, as well as, trauma, grief and death.
Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitute if required for your position.
Is able to move freely about facility with or without an assisted device and must be able to perform the functions of the job as outlined in the job description.
Overall vision and hearing is necessary with or without assisted device(s).
Frequently required to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time.
May require frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling or crouching.
Some exposure to blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious material.
Must follow MyMichigan Health bloodborne pathogen and TB testing as required.
Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work independently, regular and predictable attendance and ability to stay awake.
Overall dexterity is required including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering and feeling.
May require repetition of these movements on a regular to frequent basis.
