POSITION: HEAD CUSTODIAN - Mackinaw High School (40K+ Sq Ft Building)
6:30 AM – 3:00 PM (30 minute unpaid lunch)
Monday through Friday

QUALIFICATIONS: Preferred 5 years previous Head Custodian or Utility Maintenance experience High school graduate, education beyond high school preferred In-person attendance required Punctual with good attendance record Ability to lead by example Ability to relate to and cooperate with professional staff, students, outside contractors, and the general public Ability to coordinate the efforts of a custodial staff Experience in the preventative maintenance and operation of HVAC units Knowledgeable and experienced with local health department codes Knowledgeable and experienced with the State of Michigan fire codes for local schools Knowledgeable with the AHERA Act and the Michigan Right to Know Law Capable using a computer for completing and generating work orders, operating computerized HVAC controls, and daily communication via email Experienced with minor electrical repairs: Ballast replacement, 120 and 277 Volt Switch and wall plug replacement Capable of installing single and three phase motors Is familiar with the National Electrical Code in regard to wire size, grounding requirements, installation techniques, proper switches and receptacles.
Capable of installing low voltage communication wiring, coaxial, category 3 and 5 wires Capable of troubleshooting and programming master clock systems Experienced in trouble shooting all electrical problems, including motor starters and fuse replacements Experienced with minor plumbing repairs: Sloan valve repairs Drinking fountain repairs Faucet repairs and replacement Experienced in sink repairs including P-trap replacement Sump pump replacement Experienced with HVAC preventative maintenance Filter replacement Bearing and electric motor lubrication Troubleshooting heating and ventilation problems Experienced in replacing circulation pump seals and bearing assemblies Experienced in replacing all types of pump couplers and motor mounts Experienced in V belt replacement including proper alignment and tension Capable of replacing a roof top exhaust fan motor Is able to detect bad H&V bearings and take proper corrective action Experienced in replacing univent motors and bearings Capable of removing heating coils for repair and reinstalling Experienced with door and door hardware repairs: Door closer repairs and maintenance Door lock troubleshooting and repairs Capable of installing and repairing panic bars Capable of trouble shooting mortise lock problems including replacement Experience in the proper application of latex, oil base, and epoxy paints Experience in the maintenance of a variety of floor coverings.
Experienced and knowledgeable in the maintenance of carpeted floors Capable of making repairs to all types of bathroom partitions Understands the proper use of various types of anchoring devices for equipment installations.
Capable of making minor repairs to school grounds equipment, custodial equipment and vehicles.
Capable of making repairs to school lockers including changing locker combinations.
Experienced making repairs to school furniture including installation.
Experienced locating roof leaks, repairing seams and installing various size patches.
Capable of clearing snow off sidewalks and driveways during the winter months.
Capable of handling lawn mantainenance at building site as needed.
Capable of climbing a ladder for roof inspections and interior light repairs.
Knowledgeable in the use of cleaning chemicals to maintain clean and sanitized building conditions.
Capable of unloading trucks with commodity shipments and other school deliveries, as required.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES AS NEEDED: Off-hour building checks After school special events Support and assistance covering custodial needs at other district buildings COMPENSATION: According to the Agreement with Local 517M, Service Employees International Union, AFL-CIO Hourly wage range from $13.
