We have an exciting opportunity on our team as a Technical Service Representative - Instrumentation Specialist! This position is located in Midland, MI and includes 30-50% domestic and international travel opportunities to provide world class technical support to our customers and distributors.
When not traveling, focus is on quality control, certification and continuous improvement.
This position exists within a team that works together to schedule customer visits and travel that works best for the employee, customer and the Company.

*REPORTS TO: *Manager of Instrument, Quality Assurance and Technical Services *STATUS: *Exempt, salaried.
All the criteria-based duties and standards within this document will be performed according to the established policies, procedures and guidelines within the department/site and the Savant Group.
*JOB SUMMARY* It is the responsibility of the Instrument Specialist to evaluate instrument operations, interpret or run test results, complete installations, troubleshoot instruments and provide customer training.
The instrument specialist must have detailed knowledge of laboratory testing to perform certifications and delivery.
The instrument specialist will travel globally depending on the needs of the department.
*ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES* 1.
Performs *onsite* installation, repairs, servicing, and customer training on instruments.
2.
Demonstrates ability to solve customer equipment issues while onsite or remote.
3.
Supports distributors (dealers) with internal training for setup and preventative maintenance.
4.
Demonstrates preparation and thoroughness for pre-trip, trip-in-process, and post-trip practices.
5.
Develops proficiency and knowledge on all instrumentation product lines and individual features.
6.
Follows company policies specific to expense report and trip reports.
7.
When not traveling, supports quality control and certification of instrumentation prior to shipment to customer.
8.
Focuses on continuous improvement to make the company more efficient.
9.
Fully utilizes company provided software and IT systems.
10.
Performs wiring and computer setup associated with the assembly, calibration, testing, and certification of precision instruments.
11.
Modifies work instructions for updated processes.
12.
Provides support as needed to team members to ensure timely and accurate results delivery.
13.
Works with leadership to identify and pursue professional growth opportunities.
14.
Promotes safety and good housekeeping practices in the laboratory for assigned test areas including timely clean-up of test areas and apparatus, sample, and reference fluid management, maintaining adequate chemical/test material stock levels, and follow documented safe operational procedures.
15.
Interfaces with customers and distributors on the phone and in person.
16.
Troubleshoots problem areas associated with the systems and offer resolutions.
17.
Completes purchase order requisitions to obtain necessary products for customer orders and necessary lab supplies.
18.
Works closely with other instrument specialists on updating the travel schedule with new service requests and travel dates.
19.
Implements pertinent Quality System activities according to documented procedures to assure compliance and continuous improvement.
20.
Participates in domestic distributor training.
Travels when required.
*MARGINAL JOB DUTIES* 1.
For assigned test ownership areas, leads efforts to implement quality system procedures such as writing standard operating procedures and contribute to process improvements.
2.
Assists Technical Services with creating specific task procedures.
3.
Manages research projects and maintains associated technical documentation.
4.
Participates in international distributor training.
Travels when required.
5.
Participates in design and development of new instruments and upgrades.
6.
Other tasks assigned as required.
*JOB SPECIFICATIONS* *EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS: *Bachelor’s degree in electrical or mechanical engineering, computer science or related field preferred.
*LICENSURE: *Valid driver’s license.
*EXPERIENCE: *Two years’ experience in quality control and/or lab environment required.
Experience with electrical, mechanical, or electronic devices preferred.

*PHYSICAL EFFORTS: *Working with and lifting/moving equipment weighing 30+lbs is expected.
Lifting and moving activities can be shared with others and/or can use assistive equipment to help bear the load as necessary.
Other physical efforts may include but not limited to carrying weight, lifting, seeing, hearing, talking, sitting, standing, walking, reaching, climbing, stooping, crawling, kneeling, pushing, pulling, repetitive motion/dexterity, and other physical requirements as required by the position.
*WORKING CONDITIONS*: Due to the environment, working conditions may include but not limited to exposure to chemicals, regularly exposed to dust, odors, oil, spills, fumes, and noise.
*SAFETY MEASURES:* All employees are expected to follow safety procedures and regulations at all times.
*HOURS OF WORK: *Full-time with a typical schedule of Monday through Friday, 8-hour shifts.
*TRAVEL: *Domestic and occasional international travel is required for this position.
Travel is dependent on the needs of the department but ranges from 30-50%.
Typical trip length is up to 5 days but can vary depending on the needs.
