JOB SUMMARY:
The Network Engineer is responsible for effective provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of networking systems; hardware, software and related infrastructure.
This individual participates in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the campus network.
This individual ensures that system hardware, software and related procedures adhere to organizational values and industry best practices.
This individual will demonstrate excellence in customer service through actions consistent with the University’s and ITS Vision, Mission and Values.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Support the campus network infrastructure
Install, configure, and support routers, switches
Install, configure, and support wireless networking
Troubleshoot connectivity and performance issues
Develop and update network documentation
Develop, update and report on network monitoring
Support remote campus sites
Develop and implement network automation tools using programming or scripting skills
Support campus users in accessing and using the network
Assist with developing, disseminating and supporting programs/packages and user guides
Perform research and schedule personal training or attendance at seminars to keep abreast of network technology.
Follow ITS policies and procedures for NE related tasks.
Maintain campus data closets
Support for campus firewalls and IPS
Support for VPN services
Support the Campus network access controls
Support for imaging and deployment systems
Support for service request management system
Support for Security logging and reporting
Support for bandwidth management and reporting
Other tasks and duties as assigned by supervisor
Provide on-call support
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
An Associate's degree or currently enrolled in a Bachelor's degree program.
Experience troubleshooting network performance issues
Experience configuring vlans and trunking
Experience installing and configuring wireless networks
Knowledge of the TCP/IP protocol and IP subneting issues
Working knowledge of microcomputer hardware and operating systems
Effective problem solving skills.
Effective and efficient written and oral communications skills.
Interpersonal skills necessary to interact with all levels of University personnel and outside agencies.
Ability to work independently, as a member of a team and without direct supervision.
Ability to organize and prioritize work.
Ability to handle differing, non-routine work situations and issues by exercising independent judgment and initiative.
Experience and abilty to positively interact with a diverse campus community.
Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience configuring and troubleshooting multicast on a large network
Knowledge of IP routing
Experience with Aruba Wireless
Experience with HP Aruba switching configurations
Experience with HP Comware/CX networking
Experience with Palo Alto Firewalls
Experience with NAC solutions
Experience with Airwave wireless management
