As a strategist and thought leader, our Chief Risk Office / General Counsel will successfully lead our organization through proactive identification of the wide array of legal and business issues raised in activities across the organization.
In addition, you will make an impact by providing related advice and counsel to the Chief Executive Officer and other members of our executive leadership team.
How You’ll Make an Impact at Rehmann:
Overseeing the development, implementation, and execution of the organization’s risk strategy and program
Managing the organization’s legal matters as well as organization’s outside counsel, including subpoena compliance, potential claims, regulatory inquiries, litigation and claim related matters
Partnering with other key executives to proactively identify issues and solutions that can impact the organization’s goals, objectives, and strategies
Overseeing the development and updating of strategic action plans to mitigate organization’s primary threats and monitor the progress of risk mitigation efforts
Building risk quantification and qualification models, algorithms, and formulas to support the definition of risk appetite and tolerance levels
Developing and distributing risk analysis and progress reports to company executives and board members
Operationalizing risk management by building strategies and processes to integrate risk management priorities into the organization’s overall strategic planning
Providing subject matter expertise regarding federal and state laws and regulations impacting the organization
Monitoring the firm’s liability insurance and coverage plans, including ensuring that the firm has coverage to reduce or minimize overall risk and overseeing all insurance claims
Acting as the resident expert on risk by monitoring and reporting on the organization's risk profile
Overseeing funding and budgeting of risk management and mitigation projects
Communicating with firm leaders and board members about the organizations’ risk profile and assessments
In coordination with the departmental risk management and quality control leaders, drafting and reviewing department and organization policies, procedures, and documents
Serving as legal advisor on all major business transactions, inclusive of business combinations and divestitures, partnership agreements, operating agreements, buy-out agreements, and relationship agreements
Preparing, reviewing, and negotiating contracts, requests for proposals and other legal documents
Overseeing firm risk management training
Advising company executives and board members on legal matters
Working with CEO, COO and CFO on all risk matters
Your Desired Experiences, Values and Skills:
Bachelor’s degree in a related field
JD from an American Bar Association accredited law school
Active license to practice law, preferred
Experience working in a law firm and/or professional services firm, preferred
Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to establish trust and develop productive relationships with staff at all levels and collaborate effectively with senior management in strategic planning, decision making, and culture building
Ability and willingness to make and convey decisions to all levels of the organization
Ability to resolve problems creatively and effectively, identifying underlying issues in complex situations, recognize patterns and trends, develop comprehensive solutions to recurring issues, and apply relevant expertise and experience to diverse legal questions
Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to summarize issues and proposed solutions
Ability to anticipate and identify emerging issues and strategically weigh risks
Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
